Description
The Circunvalação I building occupies a previously empty plot on the urban front. In agreement with the municipal services, a new alignment was defined, providing for future volumetric standardisation up to the Estrada da Circunvalação. The structure is marked by a grid of balconies on the façades, creating a rhythm of voids and shadows. The ground floor, predominantly exterior, is fluid and visually permeable towards the garden. The top floor, set back, relates to the pre-existing buildings. The horizontality, reinforced by exposed concrete and shades of grey, adapts the scale to the surroundings. Windows that run along the inside of the walls intensify the connection to the outside. The building incorporates thermal control solutions which, in addition to plastic expressiveness, guarantee low energy consumption. Two vertival voids promote natural ventilation and internal connectivity. (Version adapted from the author’s original text)
