Description
At the beginning of the 20th century, a farm was established featuring gardens and a manor house influenced by 19th-century Brazilian architecture, already marked by the emergence of Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. Today, this site is home to the Quinta da Gruta Municipal Education and Environmental Awareness Complex, dedicated to fostering ecological awareness and learning through direct contact with nature. Open to the community, the complex provides a space for leisure and education, where environmental preservation and advocacy are central to its educational initiatives. The Quinta da Gruta Environmental Education School is conceived as a complementary structure — not intended to rival the manor house, but rather to integrate with it in a discreet and respectful manner. Both its form and function reflect a relationship of harmony and interdependence with the historic building, aligned with the simplicity of rural architectural tradition.
