Description
Casa da Arquitectura - Centro Português de Arquitectura is one of the most important institutions in Portugal dedicated to the theme of Architecture, promoting exhibitions, preserving collections, research and disseminating the social and cultural relevance of architecture to different audiences. Based in Matosinhos, just a few metres from the beach, since 2017 the Portuguese Architecture Centre has occupied the former Real Vinícola block - a late 19th century heritage site, restored to a design by architect Guilherme Machado Vaz - which covers an area of around 5,000 m² and includes the Exhibition Nave, the House Gallery, the Luis Ferreira Alves and Álvaro Siza spaces, the Archive, the House Shop and support and service areas. It is currently an unavoidable reference in the architectural, cultural and tourist panorama, and is an award-winning and recognised example of the rehabilitation of industrial heritage.
