Description

The project to renovate the CDUP’s grandstand and headquarters, promoted by the University of Porto, is part of the context of the University Stadium, located in the heart of the Campo Alegre estate and inaugurated in 1953. The existing grandstand building, of rationalist inspiration reflected in the elevation of the access road, is laid out in strict symmetry and with a composition defined by a metric of pillars that converge in the negative of the porticoed entrance - a loggia over the street that marks the passage to the interior of the stadium, highlighting the low reliefs chiselled in a granite mural with motifs that refer to the imagery of the mythology of classical antiquity. At the same time as the structural refurbishment, the interior space was remodelled to include the support areas for the playing fields. On the longitudinal alignment of the existing grandstand are the two new buildings that make up the complex, which absorb the programme of the CDUP headquarters and support for university students, which are contaminated by the composition of the grandstand, reinterpreted and freed from symmetry, in a more fluid and dynamic register.
