Description
Located in Maia, Casa Marília is a single-family house set in a large plot of 5,556 m². This refurbishment and extension project is based on a building from the early 20th century - originally known as ‘Casa Brasileira Maria Odete’ - a unique construction in Portugal, marked by the strong influence of Brazilian architecture. Despite its advanced state of disrepair, the building had the status of a heritage site, imposing a significant challenge: reconciling the preservation of its historical identity with the demands of contemporary housing. The intervention sought to balance the memory of the past with the comfort and functionality of the present, favouring large spaces for family gatherings and a strong connection with the surrounding garden. Casa Marília is now reborn as a modern and sophisticated residence, incorporating new features such as a garage, laundry room, indoor swimming pool, six bedrooms, large living rooms, kitchen, office and a basement with storage and wine cellar. A project that honours its history while looking to the future. (Ventura+Partners)
