Description

The building that stands on the granite massif of the Douro riverside slope is not only a landmark in the landscape, but also a testimony to the passage of time and the transformation of spaces. From its origins as a Diocesan Seminary, through the period of abandonment and destruction during the Siege of Porto, to its reconstruction to house a new educational mission, the building that houses the Colégio dos Salesianos continues to evolve, in a constant dynamic of heritage re-signification and urban integration, showing a unique relationship with the topography and morphology of the city. Opening this space to the public as part of Open House Porto will allow us to reflect on the dynamics of preserving and reinterpreting built heritage. The experience provided by the visit will enable a stratigraphic reading of the spaces, material elements and narratives that the building contains, promoting a critical look at the permanence and mutation of architecture in the contemporary urban context.
