Description
There is no true freedom without information, and that has been the role of the RTP Porto Production Centre throughout its existence. What started out as a small regional RTP office (in 1959), essentially associated with a broadcasting antenna to cover the north of the country, ended up becoming a thriving and diversified content production centre, with a strong presence in the daily life of public service television in Portugal. Today, RTP Porto is one of the largest content production centres in the country, with around 300 employees, responsible for 40% of the information and entertainment production for the RTP group’s television programme services (on the RTP1, RTP2, RTP3, RTP África and RTP Internacional channels) and radio (on the Antena 1, Antena 2 and Antena 3 stations). Examples are the RTP2 news programme and the Praça da Alegria programme, which began in 1995. (Teresa Novais and Margarida Quintão, OHP’24)
