Description
In the 1970s, Manuel Correia Fernandes designed four holiday homes in front of the see for four friends. The buildings, which are necessarily economical, are organised around the living room - an open, taller space that brings together various functions, integrating the stairs/circulations to the (necessarily small) bedrooms and the natural relationship with the garden. A single roof seeks to unify the houses and, at the same time, compose the front elevation to the sea. After almost 50 years, it’s also important to read the action of time on the architectures, and how each house has undergone different processes of erosion or treatment - preservation, alteration or near abandonment. But there is, in spite of everything, an overall design that remains… which good architecture guarantees. (Joana Couceiro and Nuno Valentim, OHP’19)
